Coach Canvasses League For Baseball,Softball
The coach of the U-12 Baseball and Softball team, Joseph Ogunseye, has urged state associations to organise a viable league to enable the sport to thrive in the country.
Ogunseye told newsmen in Lagos that the introduction of state leagues would revitalise and reposition the sport.
He stressed that a state league would ensure the discovery of talents that could represent the country at international competitions.
“State Baseball and Softball associations in the country should introduce a league to develop and popularise the game.
“Lagos, Kwara and Delta states already have their league and I think others should be working towards having their own league.
‘’More talents will be discovered at the grassroots and nurtured to stardom’’.
He added that if the league was organised and sustained at the state level, it would accelerate the introduction of a national league by the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation (NBSF).
On their preparation for the IBAF U-12 Championship slated for Taipei in July, the coach said that the team was currently fine-tuning its tactics to ensure a good outing at the competition.
Ogunseye appealed for more support from the government and private bodies to enhance the team’s profile and preparations ahead of the competition.
