VIO Explains Procedure To Obtain New Driver’s Licence
Applicants for the new driver’s licence will have to go
through three main procedures before obtaining the document, the Lagos State
Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), has said.
The state VIO Head of Operation, Mr Olusoji Adebayo, made
this known during a sensitisation visit to an agency in Lagos last Wednesday.
According to him, the procedure will enable relevant
agencies to capture applicants’ personal details in the central database for
easy access during subsequent renewals.
“Any applicant seeking a genuine driver’s licence must go
through the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency for proper certification and
documentation.
“The applicant would then proceed to the VIO for sight and
driving test and finally to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for physical
capturing after which a temporary driver’s licence is issued,” Adebayo said.
He explained that those in possession of fake driver’s
licence would be treated as fresh applicants.
Adebayo advised applicants to go to any of the six
designated centres in Ikeja, Ojodu Berger, Lagos Island, Ikorodu, Ojo and
Gbagada for the processing.
“Driver’s licence by proxy is not advisable and do not
patronise touts.”
He advised motorists to ensure the roadworthiness of their
vehicles, backed up by a MOT certificate.
Adebayo stressed the need to restore sanity on the roads and
urged motorists to obey the new traffic laws to avoid trouble.
“Lagos traffic agents are no longer operating aggressive
enforcement as the new ‘Autoreg’ helps trace traffic offenders even to their
home.’’
He advised motorists to always check every part of the
vehicle before embarking on a journey to avoid accident.
