Corruption: Cleric Blames Religious Leaders, Politicians
A London-based Cleric, Pastor Tosan Abuwa, has blamed
religious leaders and top politicians in Nigeria for the present corruption
pervading the country.
Abuwa, the General
overseer, Redeemed and Restored Ministries Int’l, noted that most religious leaders are
unable to condemn corrupt political
leaders and government functionaries because they have compromised
by fraternizing with them.
In a sermon recently,
the Senior Pastor expressed shock that religious leaders who are supposed to be
at the vanguard of the campaign for good governance and moral uprightness among
political leaders could no longer do so as a result of what he called “their
unholy romance with politicians”.
The cleric, who frowned at the growing level of socio –
economic decay in the country, also berated the nation’s leaders for not doing
enough to make life comfortable for its citizens.
“It is sad that millions of Nigerians are suffering today,
many are hungry, many are jobless, while social infrastructure facilities like
roads, power supply, and hospitals are in deplorable situation.
“Nigeria is a country blessed by God with natural resources,
for which its citizens have no reason to suffer, but bad leadership has denied
people the chance of enjoying the natural endowments given to the nation by
God, “ he said.
According to him, “politicians continue to feed fat, while
government continue to milk oil, from the Niger Delta Region leaving nothing to
show for it. Nigerians are used to “suffering and smiling” as earlier predicted
by the late Afro Beat king, Fela Kuti,.
Pastor Tosan thus urged Nigerians to rise against
intimidation, corruption while referring to Naboth in the Bible against King Ahab a corrupt king, noted for
intimidating and collecting people’s inheritance, (1kg 21:3) adding that
“ God’s judgment is very imminent on corrupt leaders and
other people who are engage in vices
militating against the progress of this country.
“As from this moment, God will pass through this nation and
it will be time for our leaders to give account of their stewardship. Those who
are found wanting should expect God’s judgment”, he declared, urging political
leaders in the country to develop new attitude toward governance.

LP Crisis: Ex-NWC Member Dumps Dumps Abure Faction
Mr Ojukwu, who recently returned to the interim National Working Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, noted that the party had 34 elected members in the House of Representatives, eight Senators, and 80 members at the state Houses of Assembly after the 2023 general elections.
“Now we lost all of them,” he said. “I don’t think we have as many as five members in the National Assembly.”
The former national officer of the LP talked to journalists in Abuja and said he chose to join the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi-Usman because they are now the officially recognized leaders of the Party.
“I chose to work with the caretaker committee to help save the Labour Party, for the benefit of the party. I also want to use this chance to ask my colleagues at the national, state, and local government levels to come together and help rebuild our party.
“Another election is around the corner. We lost everything we have. They have left to other political parties. So I’ll reach out to all my friends in the other group to get together and work on making this party stronger again.
“The caretaker committee has formed a reconciliation committee. Let’s come together and talk so that we can restore the first opposition political party in Nigeria.”
Mr Ojukwu, who was part of the Julius Abure’s group, said there are no more factions in the LP.
He added, “There is a court ruling, and since it is valid, the right people are in the correct positions.”
He urged Barr Abure and others to drop the legal cases they have filed because they are not helping the party.
“Litigations are killing political parties”, he said. “They’ve seen many political parties disappear because of legal battles, and the Labor Party is losing support every day, which makes me feel sad.”
Mr Ojukwu said he did not think joining the Senator Nenadi-Usman’s NWC was a betrayal of the Abure group, describing himself as “the oxygen” of that faction.
“I’m with this group because of the verdict. But I never betrayed anybody. Rather, I was betrayed,” he added.
