Bad Roads Repair Begins In PH
The Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Mr Victor
Giadom, has called on people of the
state to exercise patience, saying that plans were under way to rehabilitate
the bad roads in the state capital.
Giadom made the call in Port Harcourt on Wednesday at a
reception held in honour of 10 engineers sponsored overseas for training on
project supervision and quality control.
Giadom said that the state government had a lot on its hands
and could not attend to every problem at a time.
“We need to be patient with government; the present
administration in the state has a listening ear; I assure you that the issue of
spoilt roads will soon be over.’’
He said that the state government and the people were
expecting to see major changes in the quality of projects in the state.
He told the engineers to justify the money spent for their
training by being alive to their responsibilities.
“The reason for which you were sent for training is for you
to ensure that our projects are of high quality.
“Having completed the programme, it is then your
responsibility to bring the knowledge gained to bear in the discharge of your
duties,’’ he said.
Our correspondent
reports that residents of the state have raised concern over the quality
of roads delivered by contractors.
