Injury Rules Out Cameroon’s Eyong From Congo Clash
Cameroon international, Enoh Eyong will not play against the DR Congo tomorrow in the second round of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying.
Officials from the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) on Wednesday confirmed the injury of the 26-year-old Ajax midfielder and declared him unfit for the encounter.
No replacement will be made, according to coach Denis Lavagne, who said his bench was rich enough to make up for the absence of their former vice-captain.
Meanwhile, the team’s ex-captain and all-time top scorer Samuel Eto’o will not be playing as well following his suspension.
Cameroon will host familiar neighbours DR Congo on Saturday at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaoundé.
Both teams met last in Kinshasa last October during the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, with Cameroon triumphing 3-2, but their earlier clash in the Cameroonian city of Garoua ended in a 1-1 draw.
