Rivers To Participate In London Carnival
The Rivers State Government, says it is ready to showcase
the rich cultural potentials of the state in the forth-coming Northinghill
London carnival in the United Kingdom.
The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Nabbs Imegwu
who briefed the press on the development, yesterday in his office, said that
the government has opened discussions with Zmiroge, a United Kingdom based
consultancy outfit to facilitate the participation of the state contingents in
the carnival which holds August 2012.
Dr. Imegwu said that the situation would provide opportunity
for the government to show case the rich cultural and tourism potentials to the
world while at the same time giving investors the opportunity to choose areas
of possible investments in the state.
The commissioner noted that the London carnival would equip
the state with enough experience for the annual Port Harcourt Carniriv.
He also disclosed plan by the government to rehabilitate the
Port Harcourt Zoo as well as the construction of a world class z00 in the
Greater Port Harcourt area of the state.
Also speaking, the Director General of the Rivers State
Tourism Development Board, Mr Sam Dede said that the state will showcase her
rich cultural potentials on the streets of London.
He also said that the event will open up the state for
investors from Europe and other parts of the world.
The Director of Zmirage U.K. Mr. Shabuka Thompson said that,
the Agency is forging a relationship with the Rivers State Tourism Board on
areas that will be sustainable.
He also said that efforts are being made by the agency to
open up Africa as a tourism destination for the Carribeans.
