Seme Customs Generates N282m
The Seme Border Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it generated N282 million revenue in April against the N686 million generated in March.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ernest Olottah, disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday in Badagry.
Olottah said that the drop, which was about 200 per cent, was due to the increase in the duties imposed on goods by the Federal Government.
He said that he was optimistic that the revenue would increase in future when importers must have adjusted to the new duties.
The Area Comptroller of the Command, Alhaji Sadiq Sahabi, said that the revenue was generated from duties, fines, levies and Value Added Taxes (VAT) paid on goods.
The Area Comptroller said that the command recorded 37 seizures with Duty Paid Value of over N20 million.
He said that some of the seizures included textiles, wines, vehicles, poultry products and leather wears.
Sahabi said that nine suspects were arrested for smuggling offences by the command.
