Murder OF FGC Director Family Alleges Plans To Stall Investigation
Barely four weeks after unknown gunmen
stormed the Federal Government College, Rumuokoro in Port Harcourt, and killed
one Mr. Okoro Kalumong, a Deputy Director with the College, the family of the
deceased has alleged plans to stall investigations into the murder.
The late school teacher who is a deputy
director was allegedly killed in a robbery incident on the 24th March, this
year at his apartment in the school premises.
In an interview with The Tide in Port
Harcourt recently, the wife of the deceased, Mrs Okoro Kalumong said the
hoodlums invaded the school premises on that fateful day and killed her
husband.
According to her, the late teacher was the
only victim of the alleged robbery attack adding that the robbers did not
remove anything from the house after killing him.
Mrs Kalumong disclsoed that shortly after
the incident, the matter was reported to the Rumuokoro Police Special Command
who visited the scene and took her statement noting that nothing positive had
come out of the investigation.
She alleged that the school management had
been indifferent on the matter since the incident happened even as her husband
was killed while in active service.
She wondered why the school’s leadership
would choose to treat a deputy director who had served the school dutifully, in
a dishonourable way even in the painful circumstances of his death.
The widow and mother of four children
averred that since the incident occurred she had been living in a state of fear
and anxiety due to further threat to her life adding that the circumstances of
her husband’s death may be swept under the carpet, if urgent steps are not
taken by those entrusted with the responsibilities of the investigations.
Mrs. Kalumong used the opportunity to call
on the authorities of the state police command to intensify efforts on the
investigation so as to ensure that justice is done on the matter and the
killers of her husband brought to book.
When contacted on telephone, the principal
of Federal Government College, Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt, Dr. Mrs. Ogundu said the
matter had been foreclosed and cannot be revisited again.
Confirming the story, in a telephone
interview, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Indabanwa said no
arrest had been made but that investigations are on going.
