NGO To Partner RSG On Child Rights
A non-governmental
organisation Child Protection Network (CPN), says it will partner with the Rivers State Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation in the efforts at attaining the goals of the social welfare and child rights programme in the State.
At a special session in Port Harcourt to brainstorm on strategies to boost social welfare programmes in the state, the new Chairman of CPN, Mike Gbarale, said social government programme should not be left alone with government to handle.
“The issue of social welfare deserves a collective approach by well-meaning organisations. It should not be left alone with government to handle. That is why our organisation has concluded plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Social Welfare to fast track the attainment of future goals,” the CPN Chairman said.
Gbarale who did not give details of the planned partnership with the Social Welfare ministry, said however, that it is packaged in such a way that every aspect of the rights of the child and social welfare generally are given deserved attention.
The CPN Chairman commended the State Ministry of Social Welfare and rehabilitation for what it called “pragmatic approach in programme of social welfare”, but said more effort was required to achieve greater results.
He therefore solicted the cooperation of all and sundry to assist the Ministry actualise the goals of social welfare and rehabilitation programmes in the state.
He also stressed the need for adequate re-orientation on the rights of the child in the society in order to guard the populace against the abuse of such child rights.
He was full of praises for the developmental strides of the administration of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and called for maximum support to government policies and programmes to better the lots of the citizenry.
He also advocated for proper funding of social welfare and child rights programmes, saying there was need to pursue a comprehensive activities on the rights of the child to guarantee their future contributions to society growth.
