13 Entries For Rivers Film Contest
At least, 13 entries have been received by the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications for the Rivers film competition.
The competition is entitled “The Dangers of oil bunkering”
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari told newsmen shortly after a meeting with the committee in her office, that the title of the film reflects the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report which painted a picture of the pollution and degradation of the environment resulting from oil explorations.
Mrs Semenitari noted that the situation would ensure that the dangers of illegal oil bunkering are brought home to the people.
She said that the competition was part of the vision of the government to engender a creative economy for the state, adding that it was in line with this that 120 youths were sent by the government for training at the New York Film Academy.
According to her, the development would enable Port Harcourt to regain its lost glory as the entertainment hub of the nation.
A release earlier issued by the Ministry said that the best and first runners-up for each film category would attract N1million and N500,000 respectively, while a star prize of N2million would be for the overall best entry in the three categories.
According to the releases, all prizes are to be presented at a grand award nite where the films would be premiered, while best entries from each category would be exhibited by the state delegation to the 2012 Zuma International Film Festival holding in Abuja.
The committee is made-up of Adele Onyedibia, chairman, Sam Dede, Emem Isong, Prof Leopold Belgam and Maureen Ihua.
