Chile, Aboyti FCs Advance In Mega Soccer Tourney
The on-going Comrade Kala Mega Soccer Championship at the Number Six Field Mini-Stadium in Port Harcourt Township gathers momentum,Chile Football Club of Port Harcourt on Wednesday defeated the Golden Stars of Ogoloma, Okrika Local Government Area 6-5 via penalty shootouts.
The normal kick-off time was marred by heavy down pour and as a result, the match was delayed. But inspite of the flood, both teams started very well and showed determination to qualify for the second round of the competition.
Several attempts made mostly by the Chile Boys often met strong resistance from the skillful and physical defence of Golden Stars as the first half ended goalless.
The second half started with a lot of vigour as both sides plotted to cash on the weaknesses of their opponents. The fear of elimination and anxiety to sieze the initiative in the game resulted on both sides obtaining about five yellow cards, the highest in the championship. Finally, it was a goalless draw at the end of the 90 minutes of play.
During the penalty shoot out, Chile FC beat their opponents 6-5 to remain in the competition.
The Team Manager of Chile FC, Mr Jonah Dikibo, said he was happy over the qualification but was quick to lament that the referee was not being fair to his boys.
According to him, some of his skillful players were not protected from their hard tackling opponents.
In similar development, Aboyti FC eliminated the Achievers FC all of Port Harcourt to proceed into the second round of the competition.
