RSG Leads In Military Personnel Welfare
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has described the state as a trail blazer in the provision of accommodation and other welfare packages to military personnel serving in the state.
Governor Amaechi said this yesterday during the ground breaking ceremony for the UPDC Vintage Gardens, a proposed residential development, at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Estate in Port Harcourt.
The State Chief Executive, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, observed that “shelter, the primary need of man, is at the heart of welfare initiatives being provided by his administration for servicemen and women who put their lives on the line to ensure that the rest of us are safe,” noting that while soldiers are being killed in other States, Rivers State is providing them with shelter”
Governor Amaechi, who is also the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors ’Forum (NGF) condemned the senseless killing of soldiers in some parts of the country and commended the Nigerian Air Force Foundation (NAFF), the United Africa Company of Nigeria (UACN), and its subsidiary UACN Development Company (UPDC) for embarking on the project.
He thanked NAF and other security agencies for their efforts at restoring peace in the state, adding that the State would not forget in a hurry the part NAF played in resolving its security crisis,
Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman of UACN, Mr. Larry Ettah, thanked the State Government and NAF for providing the enabling environment for the project to take-off, stating that the project is the first of its kind to be undertaken by UPDC in the Eastern part of the country.
In their separate speeches, Group Managing Director of NAFF, Air Vice Marshal Walter Ogujiofor, and Managing Director of UACN Property Development Company (UPDC) Plc, Mr. Hakeem Ogunniran, lauded the State Government for partnering with different organizations to deliver people-oriented projects, assuring that the project billed to begin in two weeks time would be completed within 18 months.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
