Flood Control: Edo Mobilises Contractor With N60bn
The Edo House of Assembly has confirmed the payment of N6 billion out of the N30 billion contract signed with a South African registered construction company, ‘Hitech’ to address the perennial flooding of the city.
Assemblyman, Jude Ise-Idehen (ACN-Ikpoba-Okha), who is the House Committee Chairman on Works and Public Utilities, made the disclosure to newsmen recently.
He appealed to Edo indigenes to exercise some patience with government in its committed efforts at tackling erosion challenge within the city metropolis.
Ise-Idehen (ACN-Ikpoba-Okha ) said that the construction company had commenced work at Ekenwan road-end, where the flood from within the city was expected to be channelled to.
He said the government had given the company a three-year period within which to execute the project.
While the lawmaker said he understood the reason for the peoples’ anxiety, he said that the construction company had to temporally stop work because of the rains.
Ise-Idehen blamed the Federal Government for not allowing the state agencies and local government councils to carry out palliative measure on federal roads to ease the problem faced by road users.
“I visited Ugbekun Junction at Upper Sakponba road in the company of the Commissioner for Works and Ikpoba-Okha Council Chairman during inspection of failed potions.
“Seeing the deplorable condition of the road, the council chairman was asked to work on the road immediately.
“But not long after the council commenced work on the failed portions, RCC, a Federal Government contracted construction company stopped it from completing the job..
He, however, assured the public that all roads under construction by Edo Government would be completed immediately at the end of the rainy season
