‘Postal Services Benefitting From ICT Dev’
The Post-Master General of the Federation Malam Ibrahim Mori Baba, has said that globalisation and the advancements in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have brought about enormous opportunities to the post offices.
Baba, made this remark in Port Harcourt recently during the 2010 Zonal Merit Awards.
He said that ICT has brought about tremendous increases in global commerce with a resultant increase in the demand for logistics services.
The post master-general assured that the post office will continue to maintain its leading role in meeting the current demand in the industry.
He stressed the postal system is a veritable medium of economic and social development especially in Nigeria given the wide reach of postal facilities.
The post office boss, also saw the vast nationwide network of the country’s post office as a stimulant in the improvement of the living standards of the people when properly harnessed.
He informed that government has identified this important potential and the need to upgrade the post office in order to serve as a one-stop centre where ICT related products and services can be offered.
Earlier, he had lauded the media for their positive projection of the image of NIPOSt, adding that Nigerian press remains one of the most vibrant and creative in the world.
