2000 Athletes For South-West Nurses Games
No fewer than 2,000 athletes are to feature in the 2011 Nigerian Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (NISONM) Games from August 16 to August 21 at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.
NISONM Games, the biggest sporting event among health institutions in the country, were revived by the National Sports Commission (NSC) South-West Zone I in 2007.
The Zonal NSC Coordinator, Steve Olarinoye, said in Ibadan that for better packaging of the competition, the commission was partnering with Kingzise Sports Agency, the official marketers of the Games.
Lanre Alabi, Chairman, Kingzise, told newsmen that the partnership had attracted reputable sponsors to this year’s Games, adding that it would boost the competition.
“Being one of the biggest events to be put together this year by NSC South-West, all is gradually taking shape as series of stakeholders meetings have been held to prepare for the Games.
“We have met at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, University College Hospital, Ibadan and Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital OAUTH, Ile-Ife.
“These meetings are to ensure a hitch-free NISONM Games 2011,’’ the Kingsise chairman said.
This year’s edition, Alabi said, would feature many sports including basketball, football, volleyball, tennis, track and field and swimming in both the male and female categories.
The schools to participate in the Games will come from Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Oyo.
