Okocha Shelves NFF Ambition
Austin Okocha has admitted that he was ‘too ambitious’ in his quest to get on the board of the Nigeria Football Federation.
The former Nigeria captain was part of an unsuccessful bid by former internationals to sweep into the executive committee of the association, but after accepting to join the NFA’s Technical Committee, Okocha concedes that the move was premature.
“When I retired from football, I had it in mind to go into football administration, and of course, I was too ambitious to have contested in the NFA election,” Okocha said.
Okocha was recently elected as vice chairman of the Delta State Football Association, a position which gives him a say, and possibly a vote at the all powerful NFA Congress, and says he will use the position to initiate change.
“As a football man, I’ve got a lot of passion for the game; when I see things going wrong I believe that I can help and fix it. That was the motive behind my contesting for the NFA but, at the end of the day, I still have the passion for football.”
“Since I’m back, I am now thinking of giving it back to football.”
