Umpires Okay Asoju-Oba Championships Standard
The Lagos State Table Tennis Umpire and Referees Association, has rated the standard of play at the 42nd Asoju-Oba Championships as “above average’’.
The association’s Chairman, Said Adedeji, told newsmen in Lagos, that the current standard could not be compared to those of professionals.
He said that in spite of the new faces at the championships, the standard was impressive, adding that it was a good development for the competition and the players.
“The standard is above average and I think this is good for grassroots talents hunt which is the policy of the current state government,’’ Adedeji said.
He also said that there was fair judgment by the referees as the association had taken measures to check anomalies.
“Most of the players that were disqualified or walked-over failed to play in their age bracket or did not show up at the regulated time,’’ he said.
The Cadet Boy’s singles, Women Singles and Junior Girls singles have entered the quarter-final stages, while cadet girls singles and junior boys singles had reached semi-final.
