Group Wants Govt To Invest In Sports
A Niger Delta based non governmental organisation, Connecting Peace Initiative (CPI) has stressed the need for government and other corporate organisations in the region to invest in sports development in the area.
The Executive Director of the organisation, Mr. Sylvester Okoduma, said this while declaring open the second edition of the Peace Cup competition among six communities in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Mr. Okoduwa said that the competition was being organised by the group to promote peace among the communities as well as provide opportunity for youths to develop their talents.
According to him: “This is the second edition. The first edition was among four communities and due to its success, this present edition was expanded to cover six communities”.
The Executive Director used the occasion to call on the participating youths to utilise the opportunities provided by the competition to develop their talents. He commended Chief Omenazu Jackson for graciously donating the trophy for the competition.
He also thanked the management of MTN for support and disclosed plans by the group to set up committees for future competitions.
Also speaking, Ambassador Akulue Chukwu, the Executive Director of Hope of the Future Foundation, said that the competition was capable of bringing unity in the area.
