FG Apologises On State Of PH/ Aba Road
The Committee set up by the Federal Government to inspect all Federal Government road projects in the country is not happy over the current state of Port Harcourt/Aba Express Road.
The Vice Chairman of the Presidential Inspection Committee, Bon Oti during a visit to the area said the Committee will brief the President on the poor State of the road.
He commended the effort of the Rivers State Government in making the road motorable at the interim.
“We are very shocked at the state of the road and as you are very aware this road links Port Harcourt to Aba, Owerri, Umuahia and Enugu so it is a very important road, he said.
The vice chairman said the committee was shocked at the level of degradation describing it as unbelievable and promised that the committee will make recommendations as it gets back to Abuja.
Oti appologised to the people on behalf of the Federal Government for the poor state of the road and emphasised that President Jonathan was committed to intervening in the situation.
During the inspection visit, the committee condemned the slow pace of work at the bridge linking Bodo and Bonny Maintown.
He said the Committee had heard from the people and the Federal Ministry of Works and promised to sort out the challenges when they returned to Abuja.
On the East/West Road, the Committee said the contractors were doing their best to ensure success.
According to him, three contractors namely Setraco, RCC and Gitto have demonstrated commitment and seriousness in the projects.
While Setraco and RCC, he said were encouraging in their efforts, Gitto was reportedly having problem with the Committee on its handling of some sections of Eket and Oron axis of the road and maintained that the government had not abandoned the project.
He, however, stated that the rainy season was posing added challenges to the efforts of the contractors.
