Powerbike Riders Deny Linkage To Shooting, Robbery Incidents
The HardRidaz Motorcycle Club, an umbrella body of motor powerbike owners in Port Harcourt has debunked recent reports in some national and local newspapers insinuating that armed robbers or murderers who struck at different location in the metropolis used powerbikes as their escape vehicles.
The cases to which power bikes were allegedly linked include the shooting incident that took place at Garrison, and the robbery case at Tombia street all in Port Harcourt, respectively.
The Chairman of the club, Mr Osa Cookey yesterday at a press conference Thursday in Port Harcourt, said the allegation were untrue, wicked and unsubstantiated.
Mr. Cookey said that the state commissioner of Police however, denied the alleged insinuation that power bikes were involved in the two incidents in Port Harcourt.
“We visited the Rivers State Commissioner of Police to offer our help immediately after the reported incident, and he informed us that they did not state categorically that a “powerbike” was involved Mr. Osa stated.
The chairman of the club, who highlighted the aims and objectives of the group, said that the powerbike owners and riders in the state were not irresponsible people, and that the motorcycle is one of several legitimate means of personal transportation and public entertainment.
He urged the public, and the security agents in the state and the country in general to disregard the reports assuring that, the club would be the number one group to report any hand over to police and member found using power bike in such criminal activity.
Mr. Cookey regretted that when the public is fed with such reports without proper investigation it places the entire members of the club in danger of being ostracised by society.
He said, the wrong information about the club is capable of endangering their lives and means of transportation by making them targets of any would be vigilante in the state.
Mr. Cookey used the opportunity to call on their media to be fair in the reporting before publishing or announcing such as facts.
