NUJ Appeals For Caution On Yar’Adua’s Health
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have appealed to all Nigerians to exercise caution in their comments on the health of President, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
The Union in a communique issued at the end of the its National Executive Meeting (NEC) held at Akure, Ondo State recently and signed by the National Secretary of the Union, Shuaibu Usman Leman said what Mr. President needed from the entire nation at this trying period is prayers.
It condemned inflammatory statements made by highly placed individuals and organisations, which only served to unnecessarily heat up the polity in the country.
The nine-point communiqué also commended the Amnesty Programme of the Federal Government and urged the government to implement the Post-Amnesty Programme without delay.
The Union however opined that the electoral reforms remained the only credible initiative for the progress and sustainable development of the nation, and commended the governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko and members of the Executive Council for graciously hosting the NEC meeting.
Meanwhile, the indefinite suspension of four members of the Union from Cross River State and five from Enugu State Councils were rectified by NEC during the session for taking the Union to court.
They include Messrs Nsa Abasi Gill, Jude Okwe, Emmanuel Akpong and Steve Edem of Cross River State and Patricia Ugwu, Gabriel Onah, Esinwoko Anthony, Jude Orji and Mike Ubani of Enugu Council respectively.
