Olubayo Debuts After FIFA Clearance
Nigeria defender, Adefemi Olubayo made his debut for French club US Boulougne as 65th minute substitute after being cleared by world football governing body FIFA.
Olubayo moved to the French club from SC Rheindorf Altach but the Austrian club claimed that the player was still under a four-year contract with them.
The Nigerian and his advisors however argued that he had a ‘financial compensation agreement’ with the relegated Austrian club.
Rheindorf insisted that there was no such deal, but FIFA last week cleared the player to turn out for his new club and he was introduced as a substitute against St Etienne.
Olubayo’s agent and representative, Ibi Ajayi told Tidesports source that the decision was a vindication of the player’s stand.
“This is a vindication of Adefemi’s stand that he has no contractual obligation that forbids him from signing a deal with the French club.” Adefemi is relieved that this ordeal is over and he can now concentrate on his career both for club and country,” Ajayi said.
Olubayo has been named by Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu to face Tunisia is a win or break FIFA World Cup qualifier on September 6 in Abuja.
