‘FG Set To Dev N’ Delta’

The Special Adviser to the President on parastatals, statutory bodies and inter-governmental Affairs, Hon Braiye C. Ekiye has said that the federal government has the determination and strong will, this time around to develop the Niger Delta region.

Hon Ekiye who spoke with newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, said the president’s visit to Bayelsa State has again indicated the seriousness and determination the federal government is attaching toward developing the long neglected region. He described the visit as a step towards actualising the developmental needs of the Niger Delta region.

The Special Adviser also noted that the establishment of the Niger Delta Ministry is a pragmatic approach of the president in tackling the Niger Delta issue which has been on for the past 50 years.

According to him, the president is interested in wholestic development of the region both infrastructural and in manpower development.

Ekiye, however, commended the president for the historic statements during his last visit to Bayelsa State, concerning how he wants to uplift the living standards of the people of the Niger Delta region.

He also dismissed insinuation that the president’s statements were political, stressing that President Musa Yar’Adua is a very serious person who matches his words with actions.

‘I would assured Nigerians and the people of the Niger Delta that Mr President is a very serious person and would act accordingly of what he has promised.
