Bayelsans Bemoan Continuous Transport Fare Increase
Residents of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, have cried out over the continus increase in transportation fare.
Some residents who spoke to The Tide source, said after the flood, they expected that transportation fare would have gone back to the normal prices.
One of the residents, Mr Ebiundu Daniel, appealed to the state government to rein in the black marketers of petroleum products to desist from selling at exorbitant prices which is the major cause of high transport fares in the state.
“These Keke people cannot stand on the queue for a long time, so they prefer to buy fuel in the black market so they would charge us so much to recover their monies spent”, he said.
Another resident, Mrs Ebika Solomon, a trader, also appealed to the state government to come to their aid as they no longer make profit on sales after buying their goods, because of high transportation fare.
He urged the state government to take proactive steps to ensure that tricycle riders revert to the normal prices in the state capital.
However, a tricycle rider blamed the high transport fare on the high cost of buying tricycle parts and increase in petroleum products.
He urged the Federal and state governments to look into the issue, saying that their businesses have also been affected.
