NULGE Disowns Caretaker Committee In Rivers
The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Rivers State, has disowned the caretaker committee purportedly set up to run the affairs of the union in the State.
This was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
The release, which was jointly signed by the State President of the union, Comrade Franklin Ajinwo and the Secretary, Comrade A.C. Okoro, described the purported committee as the handwork of detractors.
The union stated that the purported announcement, which made reference to a court ruling from the industrial court in Owerri as the basis for setting up a purported caretaker committee over the union in Rivers State, is mischievous, baseless and also lacking in truth.
According to NULGE, the court process being maliciously referred to was made strictly in a matter brought before the court by some members of the union in Imo State, adding that the union has already complied with the ruling in Imo State.
It said NULGE in Rivers State is not in any court with, and has no court ruling against it to warrant the inauguration of a caretaker committee.
“We wish therefore to enjoin members of the public, particularly workers and stakeholders in the local government service in Rivers State to be calm and disregard the announcement as it is of no consequence whosoever.”
The release also stated that the union will handle the consequential issues emanating from the announcement according to the provision of its constitution.
