Bizman Tasks Companies On CSR
As a way out of the present economic situation, companies operating in the state have been charged to play according to the rule, by ensuring that they obey the corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) stipulation.
The Nye Nwe Eli Rumuogba, HRH Eze (Dr) Temple Ejekwu, said this at the weekend in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
He said that, if companies operating in the state could obey the CSR stipulation, that it would go a long way in reviving the current economic hardship, in the country.
Ejekwu, who also is a seasoned businessman and a hotelier, pointed out that some of such CSR provide jobs for the people.
He said there was no crime for a graduate to be trained in another skill other than his area of study.
The monarch who went through memory lane, recalled that, countries like China and Japan are today leading in technology development due to their early attention to skills acquisition.
However, he has called on the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, not to relent on his drive to develop the state, adding that, by so doing, investors would troop to the state in their numbers.
According to him, all hands must be on deck to permanently win the battle over economic hardship, thus the need for companies to take the lead.
He reasoned that since the companies have benefited much from their host communities, it would be worthwhile to reinvest in the people’s lives.
The legal icon also frowned at a situation where some communities loot o damage the property provided to them by companies, saying that, such does not encourage more actions from the companies.
Another way to pull out of the economic challenge, he said, was self reliance and skill acquisition.
