Pipe mill: Board To Train 22 Youth In China
The Nigerian Content De
velopment and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), says it plans to sponsor 22 youths to China to acquire critical skills for the development of the pipe mill at Polaku, Bayelsa State.
This is contained in a statement by the Media Relations Supervisor, Public Affairs Division of NCDMB, Mr Obinna Ezeobi, and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
The statement said the skills were needed at the pipe mill being set up by Mainland Pipe Mill Nigeria with support from the NCDMB.
It said the training, which would start before the end of August, would expose the trainees to facilities of Baoji Petroleum Steel Pipe Company Limited (BSG) in China.
It said that the 45 working days training was designed to equip the trainees with the requisite skills of operating and maintaining machines at the Polaku pipe mill.
According to the statement, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Mr Denzil Kentebe, urges the intending trainees to take the programme serious and acquire the necessary training and certifications.
The statement said that the certifications would enable them to successfully operate the Polaku pipe mill when it became operational.
It added that the trainees had been offered an opportunity which millions of other Nigerians were desirous of and charged them to comport themselves as worthy ambassadors.
It cautioned the trainees against breaking the laws of Chinese government, especially on possession and use of illicit drugs as such would be met with stiff punishment by the Chinese authorities.
It quoted the General Manager, Capacity Building Division of NCDMB, Mr Ikpomosa Oviasu, as saying: “The programme formed part of the board’s efforts to imbue Nigerians with critical skills required in the oil and gas industry.“
The statement stated that the trainees would be assessed during and after the programme and the best performers would be placed in existing pipe mills in Nigeria for on-the-job training before the start of the Polaku pipe mill.
He said that the necessary arrangements for the accommodation of the trainees and provision of other necessary materials had been concluded.
The statement stated that the Manager, Strategy and Policy Development Division, NCDMB, Mr. Abdulmalik Halilu, said the focus area of their training was highly specialised and the skills set were scarce in Nigeria.
It advised the trainees to be diligent and emerge as qualified machinists and use the knowledge to develop themselves and Nigeria.
