Firm Targets 500m SCF Gas By 2017
Seplat Petroleum Develop
ment Company Plc, has announced plans to increase its gas production to 500 million Standard Cubic Feet (SCF) per day by 2017.
Seplat Petroleum Development Company, an indigenous oil and gas company, currently produces 300 million SCF of gas per day.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Austin Avuru, told newsmen in an interview in Lagos.
Avuru said that the company would meet the targeted production after completing the ongoing second phase of its gas project.
“The second phase of our gas project will increase our production capacity to additional 225 million (SCF) of gas per day to the one we are producing now.
“We as a company think domestic energy security is critical for this country and future gas development is achievable in the next five years.”
He said that the company was currently processing about 300 million SCF per day which made it to supply about 250 million SCF to domestic market.
“When we came in, we inherited these facilities and set out to expand these facilities because we saw a future in gas three years ago.
“Today we have revamped the existing 120 million SCF of gas per day and increased it to 300 million SCF of gas per day.
“In the last three months, we are delivering an average of 250 million SCF per day to the domestic market.
“When Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) beats its chest that they are getting close to some regular power supply because of additional supply of gas to power plants, they are referring to us.
“Our entire gas services are a contribution to domestic energy security.
“Seplat, in our modest way, is proud to be a major contributor to true productive energy security.
“I implore the rest of my colleague to choose this path and I believe we can rescue the economy in the next five years,” he said.
