Oginigba Grounds PABOD Over Employment
Business activities at the
PABOD Breweries Port Harcourt located at Oginigba Community was yesterday grounded following a protest by indigenes of Oginigba Community who alleged that the company abandoned corporate social responsibilities.
The protesters who stormed the company premises with placards bearing varying inscriptions expressed dismay over the poor relationship between the company and the host community.
Speaking with newsmen during the protest, the women leader of the community, Mrs Roselyn O. Amadi who led the protest accused PABOD of denying the community employment opportunities and a Memorandum of Understanding to sustain a workable partnership between the company and Oginigba community.
The Women leader said the protest was to arouse the sensitivity of the management of PABOD to respond to the legitimate yearnings and demands of the community, especially in terms of contract awards and employments.
Also speaking, a Youth Leader of Oginigba Community and Chairman Company/Community relations Committee Barr. Achor Amadi, expressed dissatisfaction over the Modus Operandi of PABOD towards the actualization of their social responsibilities towards the community.
He said the company management had turned down all the overture, made by the community to address issues of concern in terms of Host Community/Company relations, and accused the company of employing the strategy of divide and rule in the community.
The protesters also demanded the immediate sack of the Corporate Affairs Manager of PABOD, Mr. Ken Ichoku whom they accused of conspiring with the management of the company to swindle the community.
