Ex-Wheelchair Softball Player Seeks Welfare For Athletes
A former wheelchair soft
ball player, Richard Ndubuisi, on Wednesday called on governments and corporate bodies to come to the aid of physically challenged players of the sport.
Ndubuisi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the players were facing accommodation and some other challenges.
He said that the challenges were affecting their performances in competitions.
“They are going through tough times as regards accommodation; many are squatting under bridges and in corners at the National Stadium.
“This has been our fate as physically challenged athletes; it is affecting the output of most players,” Ndubuisi said.
Ndubuisi, who is the Manager of the City Broadcast Hotel in Surulere, Lagos, said that he had been housing several homeless physically challenged athletes.
“I run a hotel in which I have been able to accommodate several physically challenged athletes who cannot afford the high price of accommodation in Lagos.
“Our athletes are facing hardship.
“These athletes have represented the country in many international tournaments, and won laurels for the country.
