Urologist Decries Poor Health System In Nigeria
A Urologist, Dr
Gabriel Ogah, says poor health system constitutes a major hindrance to national development.
Ogah made the remark in a lecture entitled: “Health in National Development’’, delivered at the 22nd Convocation of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo.
He said that good health care delivery was necessary for national development and that Nigeria’s poor health system reduced its capacity to develop.
“We need inner and outer changes in the Nigerian system to usher in a healthy and developed nation in the shortest possible time’’, he said.
He stressed that the health of a nation was one of the metrics of development, adding that “if a nation is healthy then it develops very fast.
“It is unfortunate that most developing countries, including Nigeria, have not made significant progress in primary healthcare.
“The unprogressive scenario concerning primary healthcare coupled with other troubling worldwide concerns led to the convening of a United Nation’s Millennium Summit in 2000’’, he stressed.
According to him, the topic of the lecture becomes imperative due to inability of governments to prioritise health.
