Dickson Flays Kidnapping In Bayelsa
The governor of Bayelsa
State, Chief Seriake Dickson, has expressed displeasure over the resurgence of kidnapping in the state.
The governor made the remark to Ogbia Council of Chiefs during his ‘thank you tour’ of Ogbia Local Government Area.
He said the resurgence was particularly sad when viewed against the effort of his administration to build an atmosphere where peace and security reigned.
“It is sad that there are some few elements that are collaborating with others to tarnish our efforts to build a peaceful and secure society for our people.
“I enjoin you all to condemn this criminality because this administration will not play politics with law and order.”
Dickson recalled that kidnappers had abducted four victims within a space of one month.
He specifically mentioned the sister to Mr Oronto Douglas, a presidential aide and that of the wife and child of Chief Gbalipre Turner, a chieftain of the PDP.
“Just last week, kidnappers also abducted the aged father of the Commissioner for Tourism, Nelson Belief, in his family home near Akassa, in Brass LGA.’’
The governor said the frequency of the criminal acts had become worrisome to the government and people of the state.
He urged the people to support the state government to stamp out all forms of criminality.
Dickson commended Ogbia people for their support and solidarity with his Restoration Agenda for the overall development of the state and urged them to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
King George Lawson, Acting Obenabhan of Ogbia Kingdom, on behalf of the chiefs, conferred on Dickson the title of Edi (pillar) 1 of Ogbia Kingdom.
He lauded the governor’s development efforts which he said had transformed the area and urged him to rebuild the two damaged bridges in the area.
