US Envoy TasksYouths On Corruption
The US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Terrence Mcculley, has
urged youths in the country to project a powerful voice against corruption.
Mcculley made the call when he visited the University of Uyo
to confer the Fulbright Award on two scholars of the institution.
The Tide reports that the awardees were Dr Monday
Akpanabiatu of the Department of Biochemistry and Ms Rosemary Bassey of the
Department of Anatomy
The envoy said that the youths must be advocates for positive change in the country and should provide generational insight to developmental issues.
“I call on young men and women in Nigeria to explore
abundant resources and great opportunities in your nation; take up
responsibility and make your voices heard for peace and progress.
“Project a powerful voice against corruption, advocate for
positive change, and provide generational insight to developmental issues,
invoke creativity and innovation at all levels and get involved in leadership roles,”
he said.
The Ambassador said the US Embassy in the country would
continue to support an active educational and cultural exchange programme that
would strengthen academic and cultural ties between the two nations.
He disclosed that the US Consulate in Lagos has partnership
with 24 institutions in Nigeria through the Fulbright programme of which the
University of Uyo was one.
In her welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the
University, Prof. Comfort Ekpo, said that the award was usually given to those
who excel in their studies.
Ekpo thanked the US for its assistance and assured that the
awardees would live up to expectation.
