Dokpesi Canvasses Use Of Modern Broadcast Equipment
The Chairman of DAAR communications Plc, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has underscored the need for the use of modern broadcast equipment.
Dokpesi made the call on Monday while speaking with journalists after the opening of the three-day retreat on the review of the 4th/ 5th edition of the Nigeria broadcasting code held in Uyo.
“We cannot continue to use Mungo Park equipment in year 2011 when our counterparts across the globe are already using planet 21,” he said.
The chief identified the lack of funding of private and public broadcasting institutions as the fundamental problem with broadcasting in Nigeria.
“When broadcasting was deregulated in 1992, there was no concrete agreement on how it should be funded.”
Dokpesi noted that private broadcast institutions in other parts of the world were adequately funded and their mode of operation clearly defined,
This, he said, explained why they were ahead of Nigeria.
He, however, noted that private broadcast institutions in Nigeria had contributed tremendously to the growth of the nation’s democracy.
According to him, what is needed is sincerity of purpose and commitment so that operators are would be able to implement the Nigeria broadcasting code.
“I have no doubt that the National Broadcasting Commission led by Engr Yomi Bolarinwa is determined and committed to ensure that the code is implemented by all,” Dokpesi added.
