PHCN Moves To Fight Corruption
In a bid to actualise President Jonathan’s transformation agenda, Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PCHN) says it is committed to building staff attitudinal change that will ensure a corruption free service delivery in the company.
The managing director and Chief Executive Officer ((CEO) of PHCN, Engr Hussein S. Labo gave the hint while delivering a speech at a two-day retreat of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Monitoring Unit (ACTU) in Port Harcourt, Wednesday.
Engr Labo who was represented by the General Manager, Human Resources, PHCN, Mr Olumuyiwa Olusoga noted with satisfaction the credible track record of PHCN ‘anti-corruption unit in its few years of existence especially in the areas of creating awareness, inauguration of sub-units and monthly reports to ICPC and the management.
He however stressed the need for the company’s anti-corruption unit to work harder so as to reduce to the bearest minimum incidents of bribery scandal and other cases of corrupt practices among staff in the various business units in the company.
His words: “However anti corruption unit needs to work harder to achieve greater success and to reduce to the barest minimum incidents of bribery, scandal and other cases of corrupt practices among the few staff in your various business units which tend to portray the whole industry in bad light”.
Also speaking, the chief executive officer, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (DISCO) Engr F. R. Onanuga disclosed that the activities of ACTU led to the sanctioning of many officers that were found wanting in DISCO adding that investigations are on-going on other pending reported corruption related cases.
Engr Onanuga explained that corruption in the electricity industry often involves extortion of money from customers before services are rendered saying that ACTU was established in line with he zero tolerance policy of the Port Harcourt DISCO.
ACTU was established by the federal government to serve as a micro ICPC in championing the crusade against corruption in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the federal government.
