Cleric Prays For Breakage Of Tyrannies In Leadership
Bishop of the Diocese of Evo Anglican Communion, Rivers State, The Rt. Rev. Innocent Ordu, has prayed God to hear the cries of many Nigerians and break the many tyrannies of sin and iniquity in the country.
According to him, the tyrannies include bad leadership/governance, corruption, bad policies, injustice, oppression, nepotism, criminality, and other abnormalities that have impoverished the majority of Nigerians and put Nigeria in its current sorry economic state.
Rt. Rev. Ordu made this call on Tuesday at the annual “Praise and Prayer for Nigeria programme” by the Diocese to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day anniversary held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Elelenwo District.
The Bishop said the anniversary demands fervent prayers for God’s mercy and intervention in the state of affairs in Nigeria rather than celebration of any sort.
He blamed the rot in the country on both bad leadership at all levels and the lack of the spirit of patriotism and nationalism from the citizenry.
“Even the citizens excerserbate suffering in the land by their own actions, which are also part of the tyrannies of sin”, he said.
He called on all Nigerians to play their own part in saving the country from the situation it has found itself in, and called on all Diocese of Evo faithfuls to shun all forms of negativity and pray as Christians for God to break the tyrannies of sin and iniquity in the country.
Speaking from Psalm 67, the Bishop encouraged all Christians to retrace their steps from contributing to the sad situation of Nigeria.
“As Christians, we should stop magnifying the problems of Nigeria, for God calls the Church to the place of prayer to liberate the country”, he urged.
The annual event featured songs of praise and worship as well as several sessions of prayers for the spiritual, economic, political and social well-being of Nigeria, Rivers State, the church of God in Nigeria, and other areas of concern.
The Diocese also prayed God to hear the cries of many Nigerians and revive, heal and restore the country back to the path of increase and greatness.
Earlier in the programme, The Rev. Canon Samuel Obialor of Christ Anglican Church, Federal Housing Estate Parish, Woji, spoke on the theme of the event “Unlimited Advancement and Fruitfulness Through Prayer and Praise”, taken from the book of 2 Chronicles 20:18, and Acts 16:25-27.
He said prayer and praise are inseparable as long as the spiritual journey of the church is concerned.
The host Vicar, The Ven. Azubuike Ugoha, on his oarr, thanked the Bishop for bringing the event to St. Mark’s Anglican Church and also enjoined all faithfuls of the Diocese to “shun evil and live in peace with all men, while encouraging those in leadership positions to stop oppressing those below them”

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
