Stop Giving Rivers Political Crisis Ethnic Colouration -IDA
The Ikwerre Development Association(IDA) has condemned in strong terms the spirited effort to wrongfully give ethnic colouration to the lingering political crisis in Rivers State following the disagreement between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike and the State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and urged those doing so to stop forthwith.
The group, which gave the indication in a statement issued in Port Harcourt and signed by its President, Dr Esezi Obilor Rukani noted that the Ikwerre ethnic nationality has always proven to be a dependable neighbour and peaceful haven for people from all walks of life to reside in and do their legitimate businesses.
It further indicated that both the Ikwerre ethnic nationality and the Ijaw nation worked together for the agitation for and eventual creation of the Old Rivers State, which had Chief Melford Okilo( an Ijaw man) as Governor with Dr Frank Eke(an Ikwerre man) as Deputy Governor.
The IDA equally noted that former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan appointed Chief Nyesom Wike to serve as Minister and also supported him to become the Governor of Rivers State, stressing that Chief Wike, on his part, in the run-up to the 2023 governorship elections, pushed, prodded and ensured that Sir Fubara became Governor of the State against all odds.
Against this backdrop, the group demanded, therefore, that Chief Wike and all sundry persons should continue to support Governor Fubara to succeed in the arduous task of making the State greater.
IDA also demanded that the political disagreement between politicians should not be given any ethnic colouration or bias in whatever form to prevent avoidable crises.
It enjoined detractors and haters of peace and harmony in Rivers State to retrace their steps and leave Chief Wike and Governor Fubara alone, contending that the State can not afford to go back to the dark days of ethic battles.
According to the group, “there is need for peace and harmony for our dear State’s continued growth and development”.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
