UNIPORT VC’s Wife Celebrates Professorial Elevation
The wife of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof Udeme Georgewill, last Sunday celebrated her recent elevation to the rank of a Professor by the university, with a colourful thanksgiving service.
The thanksgiving service which took place at Our Saviour’s Chapel in the university campus in Port Harcourt attracted eminent personalities from all walks of life, particularly women.
Speaking at the event, the visibly elated Professor of Pharmacology re-echoed the significance of thanksgiving, and thanked God for seeing her through the academic rigours which catapulted her to the apex of her chosen career.
She said her present academic feat and exploits would not have been attained without God and the full support of her family.
Georgewill, who is also the President of the University of Port Harcourt Women Association (UPWA) enjoined anyone wishing to succeed in the academic world to first take a bold step, saying, that philosophy of life tremendously helped her to accomplish her current academic and other great milestones.
Georgewill further indicated that she lacked the appropriate words to express her joy and delight over her academic accomplishments, contending that taking a step first remains the starting point of accomplishing one’s vision in life.
The Director of the University of Port Harcourt Basic School also applauded all those who graced the occasion, and thanked them for coming to celebrate with her despite their busy schedules.
In her sermon, Prof Nkechi Okoli thanked God for the family of the celebrant and for upholding every member of the family over these years, and asked God to continue to see the family members through as they serve humanity to the glory of the Lord.
While calling on Christians to always wear the armour of God, the preacher said it is the only way to overcome the Devil and its agents.
According to her, Christians should fervently pray in order to surmount the challenges of life.
Okoli described the administration of Prof Owunari Georgewill as one of the best things that could happen to the University of Port Harcourt, saying, “When the righteous rules, the people rejoice”, and prayed against evil leaders who make life unbearable for ordinary citizens of the country.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof Owunari Georgewill thanked God for seeing his family through life’s challenges, and commended his wife for the zeal and focus that enabled her to achieve her present academic feat.
The Vice Chancellor also appreciated all those who turned up to celebrate his wife and the family.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
