Passenger Traffic Increases At PH Airport
Passenger traffic has tremendously increased at the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa, compared to what it used to be in the past few months.
The Tide observed that business activities at the airport has also increased with the influx of passengers to the airport from different parts of the world in accordance with the festive seasons.
Those operating car hire services, particularly the FAAN Accredited Car Hires Service, and the Car Rental at the airport, are now having good business deals, as they are being patronised adequately by arrival passengers.
In spite of the increase in pump price, and the resultant increase in prices for car hires, cab operators were still having good patronage: their garage that used to be full of cars, now become empty on successive arrival of flights for some days now.
Reacting to the development while interacting with The Tide, a flight ticker, otherwise known as travel agents, Mr Vincent Ododo, said the increase in passengers traffic is synonymous with the Yuletide season and the accompanying holidays.
He said many people are now returning from overseas to come and spend their Christmas holidays at home, and would not want to travel by road due to insecurity challenges in the country.
“You will also notice that the flight ticket prices by now would have been increased, but right now, we are enjoying relative stable price, irrespective of the high passengers traffic”, Ododo said.
Affirming Ododo’s position, a protocol officer with one of the multinational companies, Julius Nwala, said flight ticket prices would have skyrocketed at the airport, if not for the competitive business environment that the return of Dana and Aero airlines have created.
“By now, some of the airlines here would have jacked up the price, probably to N70,000 or N80,000, but if they do that now, they will lose, because already Dana airline has good packages, and we will be buying tickets for our customers from them, and we will gain more from Dana, than these other airlines”, he said.
