Eboka Hands Over To New CP, Today Commends Rivers NUJ
The new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 19, Friday Eboka, will today (Monday) hand over to the new Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Okon Effiong.
Eboka revealed this when the Executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, visited him at the Police Officer’s Mess on Saturday to congratulate him on his new appointment as the new AIG in charge of Zone 19 comprising Rivers and Bayelsa states.
Eboka was, until his promotion as Police AIG, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police.
He said the new Commissioner of Police would officially take over from him today.
Eboka commended the leadership of NUJ in the state for their cooperation while in the state as Commissioner of Police, saying that he enjoyed a wonderful relationship with journalists throughout his stewardship in the state.
He, therefore, appealed to the Press to extend the same gesture to his successor.
AIG Eboka recalled that the Police, under his watch, ensured that the state was peaceful and free of crime.
“We maintained peace and accorded equal opportunity to all political parties in the state”, he said.
He also said that discipline was restored to the command under him.
“Officers of the command who derailed were disciplined while those involved in criminal acts were dismissed. Officers were warned against checking people’s phones and labtops unnecessarily”, he said.
Earlier, the State NUJ Chairman, Stanley Job Stanley, had congratulated the outgoing CP on his elevation to AIG, describing his new appointment as well deserved.
He urged him to keep up the good work, stating that more promotion awaits him ahead.
Job said journalists in the state were happy working with the outgoing CP, and stressed that his promotion to AIG was not a surprise to the union but a reward of hardwork.
The NUJ chairman also condoled with the command over the demise of the former Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, who he described as a friend of the Press.
