Mgbundukwu Community Crisis: Paramount Ruler Wins Round One

Published

on

The chieftaincy crisis that has been rocking the Mgbundukwu Community in Mile II, Diobu, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State has taken another twist.
According to a press release signed by the Palace Secretary, Chief Chijioke Amadi, and made available to the press, “The Paramount Ruler/Nyenweli Mgbundukwu Community, Eze Owabie Tobin has won the round one of the matter.” It added that the factional leaders of the community could not prove their case against the monarch at the Zone 16 of the Rivers/Bayelsa States Police Command, where the matter was reported.
The release stated further that since the community did not present any challenger to the said throne and the monarch, having substantiated his coronation for the throne with evidence shows that he is still the King.
Amadi stated further that from every sense of reasoning, the paramount ruler is not taking the matter lying low and plans to sue the factional leaders of the community to the High Court for malicious damages, libel and defamation of character.
They also stated that the alleged attack on the paramount ruler was politically motivated as he was perceived as having sympathy with the Governor Nyesom Wike government while the leaders were predominantly of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Most of the leaders, other sources say are on the run as the royal father prepares to start the round two of the matter.
The good thing, according to a community leader in a nearby community, Mr. Simeon Wigodo, is that the case has not affected the administration or socio-economic activities of the Mgbudunkwu Community neither have the people resorted to violence as some others would have done.
Amadi indicated that sometime earlier this year, some persons from the community questioned the authenticity and origin of their paramount ruler/Nyenweli after 23 years on the throne by not only putting it in writing but went ahead and allegedly assaulted the monarch during one of their town hall meetings and still dragged him to the Police Zone 16 headquarters in Bayelsa State but could not substantiate their allegation, and abandoned the case and disappeared.

Insecurity In Nigeria Is Alarming – Lawyer

Published

on

A Port Harcourt based lawyer and human rights activist, Mr. Chijioke Agi, has described the insecurity in the nation as alarming.
Mr. Agi, who made the remarks while speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt, on Monday, expressed regret that leaders had put the nation on a precipice.
He said recent development in the country had blatantly shown that there was no leadership.
He opined that the killings and shootings in Abuja, the country ‘ s federal capital territory was quite benumbing and underscored the fact that the military could no longer contain insurgency in both the northeast and northwest.
He noted that in spite of the huge resources spent the military there was nothing to show for it.
Mr. Agi said the call for President Mohammadu Buhari’s impeachment by the national assembly was pretty belated given the quantum of losses the country had suffered in all sectors of the economy.
He said the present administration had undermined the progress of the nation and caused nationwide poverty.
The Port Harcourt based lawyer remarked that the nation would grind to a halt if the present administration had more time to stay in office.
He stated that the anti-corruption was a mirage and pointed out that corruption had gained more grounds in the present administration.
“A country blessed with abundant natural resources is borrowing to pay salaries of workers. How long will that be? It’s pathetic,” he stated.
He said that there was no unity among Nigerians and explained that leadership by the mediocre had put paid to the achievement of national goals.
Mr. Agi said unless the nation had a way of bringing its leaders to book and holding them accountable the expected change would never come.
He said it was disheartening to see the masses reeling in abject poverty in the midst of abundant human and resources.
The lawyer called for deliberate and concerted effort to choose a good leader in 2023.
