LG Boss Raises Alarm Over Okada Snatching …As Police Nab Two Suspects
The Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, Captain Victor Erasmus (rtd), has said that two persons suspected to be motorcycle (Okada) snatchers along Eteo- Ogu Road have been arrested.
He stated that those arrested so far would be prosecuted and face the wrath of the law, adding that the arrest was made by the police, shortly after they carried out an attack along the road recently.
Erasmus disclosed this in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, last Saturday, stressing that last Tuesday; concerned youths in the area staged a peaceful demonstration to Ogu Divisional Police headquarters following attacks on Eteo-Ogu Road.
He said the peaceful protest was used to call on security agents to come to the aid of residents of the area and to stop the attacks by bandits.
According to him, security is key to his administration and since the inception of this administration, he has tackled insecurity in the area head on.
“The leadership of the local government area, cannot compromise any insecurity issue. In fact, we are determined and committed to protecting lives and property of the indigenes and those living within the area,” Erasmus said.
He equally used the forum to warn those that specialise in snatching motorcycles at Eteo- Ogu road, to desist from it, saying that the road is not a safe haven for their nefarious activities.
“Let me warn that Eteo- Ogu Road is not a safe haven for such nefarious activities, if they want motorcycles, they should go to China and not snatch from those who are using it for their livelihood. We have high security network and architecture that can arrest anybody that is involved in any criminal activities, because protection of lives and property in the area is paramount to this present administration”, he stated.
