IDPs Benefit From Free Medical Outreach In Khana
Over 500 internally displaced persons in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State have benefitted from a free medical outreach programme organised by the Leader of the Khana Legislative Assembly, Hon Lekia Court Nwanikpo.
The internally displaced persons from various communities in Khana LGA, gathered at the Deeper Life Camp ground in Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area to participate in the free medical programme.
Speaking with newsmen during the week-long event, the Leader of the Khana Legislative Assembly, Hon Lekia Court Nwanikpo, said the programme was an initiative of the legislative assembly to intervene over the health plight of the displaced people who have fled the communities as a result of crisis.
He said; “during an official visit to the internally displaced persons at the Deeper Life Camp, I found out that they were living in deplorable conditions and having health challenges. This prompted this initiative to assist in their health needs”.
According to him, the programme was done in partnership with the Ogoni Doctors Forum to alleviate the plight of the people. He commended the effort of the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Hon Lahteh lah Loolo, and the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for restoring peace in the affected communities in Khana Local Government Area, noting that the internally displaced persons would soon return to their various communities.
Also speaking with The Tide, the lead facilitator of the programme, Dr. Deleteh Bank, commended the effort of the Leader of the Khana legislative Assembly and urged other political leaders and stakeholders in the area to contribute their quota towards alleviating the plight of the people.
