Perm Sec Harps On Staff Training, Productivity

The Permanent Secretary, Rivers state Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment, Mr. Lawson Ikuru has stressed the need to better equip staff of his ministry through relevant training so as to enhance their productivity.
Ikuru who made this known while declaring open a two-day Training Workshop with the theme: “EXCELLENT SERVICE DELIVERY ” organised by the ministry said they should take advantage of the rare opportunity to update themselves.
He emaphasised the importance of training of staff in the growth of any organisation, noting that capacity building would be given adequate attention in the ministry.
The perm sec said the training was to expose workers to discipline, financial management, life after retirement, public service rules, among others.
He pointed out that the workshop would energise staff to perform their duties optimally and also enhance their career growth.
Also speaking, a retired permanent secretary, Mr Lambert Ekwueme, in his paper presentation-Application of Public Service Rules (A Practical Approach) and Registry/Records Management, pointed out that Public Service Rules should be obeyed always.
Ekwueme explained that public service rules do not tolerate indiscipline, misconduct, falsification of records, scandalous conducts, immoral behaviour, drunkenness, foul language, assault and habitual lateness.
He advised that, as public servants, staff are entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out and conducting government business, as such they should work individually and collectively to achieve the aims and objectives of government.
The senior citizen warned that an officer who is not capable of effectively discharging the duties of his office is said to be ineffective and can be punished accordingly.
In his vote of thanks, the Director of Administration in the ministry, Mr. Kue Ikoro, encouraged staff to make adequate and proper use of the training to improve on their performance and efficiency.
The training workshop featured paper presentations on Financial Management Procudure and Preparing for Retirement by Mr. Jones Philip and Organisational Factors Affecting Work and Security Consciousness in the Civil Service by Gwarah, Nuka Lekia.
