RSG To Commence Demolitions On Woji-Elelenwo -Akpajo Road
The Rivers State Government has issued a three day ultimatum to owners of properties marked for demolition along Trans Woji-Elelenwo-Akpajo Road to vacate the area or face disciplinary action.
The Commissioner for Works, Hon Dumnamene Dekor, who handed out the ultimatum, Wednesday while on a rountine inspection of road projects in Port Harcourt, said the Trans Woji-Elelenwo-Akpajo Road is highly threatened by erosion and needs to be embarked on quickly to avoid the road being washed off during the rains.
Dekor explained that the sign of erosion posed a big threat and as such proactive measures need to be taken, and adviced those who have collected their compensations but refused to remove the affected structures to do so with immediate effect or face forceful removal.
The commissioner regretted that the delay in removing the marked structures is slowing down the pace of work as the road is billed among others for commissioning in May 2018.
According to him,”the state government is not happy that property owners have allegedly connived with those responsible for demolition not to remove affected structures thereby causing delay in the pace of work’.
“The State Government had long paid for the properties so, we see no reason why anybody will exhibit stubbornness in complying to what hs been paid for”, he said.
On street trading, the commissioner disclosed that the government is working seriously to ensure that trading on streets of Port Harcourt is put to an end as quickly as possible.
He warned business operators on Sani Abacha Road, particularly owners of Fast Food joints to refrain from dumping their waste indiscriminately on the road that is still under construction.
Dekor however charged the ministry’s engineers and contractors handling road projects in the state to intensify supervision and construction for prompt delivery of roads billed for commissioning in May.
