How To Promote Youth Empowerment In Rivers – Ex lawmaker
A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Arthur Kalagbor has called for a more collaborative approach in promoting youth empowerment programmes in Rivers State.
Speaking in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, recently, the former federal legislator called for a synergy between government, corporate organisations and NGOs in carrying out youth empowerment programmes in Rivers State.
He pointed out that such public/private sector approach will be able to address youth empowerment activities from a holistic perspective.
He further explained that a policy should be established on that note of partnership to drive youth empowerment programmes in the state.
Kalagbor, who represented Port Harcourt Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, said statistics of unemployed youths in the state should be conducted on local government basis, while incentives should be provided for the youths to promote enterprise development at the various local government areas.
He said the policy of comparative economic advantage in the local governments should be considered, pointing out that, all local governments have resources that can engage youths creatively and discourage rural-urban migration.
Kalagbor emphasised the need for Rivers youth to key into the knowledge-driven economy by “acquiring and applying basic skills in their chosen areas of career development.
He called for effective monitoring and evaluation of youth empowerment programmes in the state to enhance sustainability.
