Rep Blames Banks For Real Estate Woes
The member representing the Karu-Keffi and Kokona Federal Constituency in Narasawa State, Hon Gaza Gbefiwi has blamed commercial banks for their failure to assist people who do investment in the real estate sector.
He has also urged the commercial banks to turn a new leaf and help investors who are interested to invest heavily in the real estate sector so as to guarantee proper development in the industry.
Gbefiwi who disclosed this to journalists in a chat at the Port Harcourt International Airport, on transit after a visit to Port Harcourt said such assistance is needed to develop real estate sector instead of exploiting the citizens of the country who go to the commercial bank to seek for loan to develop the sector.
“It is the banks in Nigeria like the Zenith Bank, First Bank that ought to help the real estate sector. The Nigerian banks instead, prefer to exploit the people and declared dividends rather than putting in money for development, as it is done in developed countries.
“There is nobody who builds a house or farm or does any type of investment in developed countries without the banks actively encouraging him, but here the reverse is the case”, he said.
The law maker also stressed that it was due to hard work undertaken by the developers in the country that made the construction engineers to achieve the stride that they had achieved.
He however bemoaned the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) for not releasing money to its customers as when due, adding that Nigerians have been able to overcome the difficulties of some commercial banks, including the FMBN, that has promise to give money, but not when needed.
