Union To Remodel Automated Duty Verification Stickers
The National President, Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria (AMDON), Mr Ajibola Adedoyin, says it plans to remodel the automated duty verification stickers for determining the authenticity of customs duty payment on vehicles.
Adedoyin, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, recently.
According to him, the only way automated duty verification stickers can work effectively is with the support of Federal Government through the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
He said that, the essence of the exercise was to ensure that government was no longer short-changed in the payment of duty and to stop the unjustified suffering encountered by members of the association nationwide.
He said that NCS was the major body with the power to make the automation stickers a success.
“Our major step is to get support from the government because for the automated stickers to be a success, we need 100 per cent cooperation from NCS.
“Along the line, we had some hitches due to low level of cooperation.
“We feel there is a need to remodel as required by the customs so that the service can be able to give us full backing.
“We are still bent on making it work. We all know that in this our country, the major thing we lack in leadership is courage.
“In leadership, if you are not courageous, you can’t do anything and we want to take the bold step in this regard, ’’Adedoyin said.
The association president said in the first quarter, AMDON launched its automated customs duty verification stickers to determine the authenticity of customs documents before purchasing vehicles.
He said that, the stickers were meant for new cars in the custody of AMDON for sale and not the old cars.
Adedoyin, who also received a National Outstanding Leadership Award 2017 from the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), said that the award was given to him on merit.
The president said, “they have seen my contributions and leadership style toward the transportation sector in the country.
“AMDON has also been trying to introduce some kind of innovation on the automotive policy.’’
