Lagos Recruits 5,000 Public Servants
The Lagos State Government says it has recruited no fewer than 5,000 officers into the state’s public service in the last two years.
The Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs Olabowale Ademola made the disclosure yesterday in Ikeja, at the ongoing 2017 Ministerial Press Briefing to mark two years in office of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State.
Ademola said that the recruitment increased the staff strength of the state’s public service to 100, 443.
“Since the inception of Gov. Ambode’s administration, over 5000 officers have been employed into the state service.
“This is to further give impetus to the vision of the government to bring governance and social service closer to the citizens, “ she said.
Highlighting other achievements of the office, Ademola said that the staff housing loan for public servants was increased from N50 million to N100 million to ensure that more workers had access to the facility.
“As part of the staff welfare mandate of the office, loans were given to public servants for the purpose of purchasing land, building residential houses and renovating existing buildings.
“A total number of 1087 public servants have benefitted from the loan scheme from May 2016 to April 2017.
“We also organised productivity merit award to recognise the contributions of workers and spur them to do more.
“The office will continue to provide required guidance and leadership to the entire public service as well as strive towards improvement in service delivery, “ Ademola said.
