Use Social Media For Positive Dev – Expert
A social media expert, Mr Razaq Ivori, has advised Nigerians to make good use of the social media to spread positive information on the opportunities which abound in Nigeria and the good attributes of its citizens.
Ivori gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Abuja last Sunday.
He stressed the importance of patriotism in the use of social media, adding that such would boost the image of the country and attract more foreign investors.
“Some sites publish fake news about the country and individuals to attract traffic; but they are doing a damage to the image of the country and the people.
“Nigeria is not as bad as it is being painted by some indigenous bloggers and enemies of the country; there are good stories about the country.
“We should use the social media for positive and progressive development of the country; though we are not perfect but we are far better than most countries in the world.
“Let’s use the social media to spread good information about the country; fake news and lies against the government or country would do us no good”, Ivori said.
He expressed delight on the recent social clinic in Abuja and noted that the event was brought together by some stakeholders who deliberated on the need to redefine information strategy on social media.
Ivori, however, expressed concern that some people had formed the habit of sending out negative development as photos of dead people which happened in other countries but which they claimed to have happened in Nigeria.
According to him, such fake information is capable of causing tension and animosity among Nigerians, if not checked.
“what will an individual gain in tarnishing the image of his or her country through spreading of false and malicious information?
“I think it’s time to start using the social media for the good of the nation, we don’t have any other Nigeria we can call our own, what we do this country, we do to ourselves.
“Instead of circulating negative information, to bring the government down, let’s be constructive in our criticism and information sharing”.
